America urges Pakistan to cooperate in Mumbai investigation
Last Updated:
America's secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice, has urged Pakistan to cooperate fully with investigations into the Mumbai attacks that have raised tensions between India and Pakistan.
She made the statement after cutting short a visit to Europe and arriving in New Delhi.
Dr Rice has now arrived in Pakistan's capital Islamabad on the second leg of the trip to the region.
India claims that most, if not all, the 10 militants who rampaged through its financial capital were from Pakistan, but Islamabad denies any involvement.
The US is hoping the secretary of state's trip will ease tensions between the two countries.
Earlier, Dr Rice said the investigation is a matter of urgency.
"I want to consult with the Indian government further about what we can do to help," she said.
"I've already noted that everyone should cooperate fully - and Pakistan in particular needs to cooperate fully and transparently.
"I was pleased to see the statements of the Pakistani government, that they intend to do so."
