Hundreds of Australians have touched down in Sydney, after boarding the first international flight out of Bangkok since the end of anti-government protests there.

It has been a long wait for hundred of Australian tourists whose travel plans were thrown into chaos by the eight-day blockade of the airports by anti-government protestors.

A Thai Airways flight left Bangkok last night with several hundred Australians on board.

The only way out of Thailand for the many Australians has been a long bus trip to Phuket, which has been serviced by additional Qantas flights.

Many families are anxiously waiting in international terminal for the loved ones, who faced days of uncertainty waiting for the Thai standoff to be resolved.
