Burma's military regime has arrested nine protesters who staged an unauthorised march in the capital Rangoon.

The group had been calling for the release of detained pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

The protesters, including one woman, were stopped and taken away in several vans by plainclothes police.

Some of the protesters were wearing the uniform of Ms Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy.

Ms Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has been under house arrest for most of the past 18 years.
