A Swiss court has ordered a bank to turn over to the Philippine government $US8.64 million deposited by a former associate of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

A Philippine commission was set up twenty years ago to recover the stolen Marcos funds.

It says the Federal Court of Switzerland has ordered the money to be transferred to the Philippines.

Estimates of stolen Marcos funds vary from $US5-10 billion, much of it in overseas bank accounts.

Hundreds of criminal cases were filed against the Marcos family, but no-one has yet been convicted.
