The Indonesian foreign minister has called on Australia to follow the lead of the US and Canada, and lift travel warnings.

Dr Hassan Wirajuda wants warnings lifted as there haven't been been any recent terrorist bombings.

The Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen Smith wont make the commitment .

"The travel advisory is there we assess it regularly on the basis of expert advice," he said.

Dr Wirajuda says warnings are affecting education exchanges.

"Australian scholars teachers express their wish to visit Indonesia as part of the educational exchange but experience difficulties because of the travel advice, " he said.
