Australians see business in Vietnam recovery

A delegation of Australian business leaders is in Vietnam, seeking business opportunities despite the global downturn.

The group includes representatives from banking, real estate and education.

They are meeting Vietnam’s top officials, including the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister.

Delegation leader Richard Woolcott, the director of the Asia Society AustralAsia, spoke to Radio Australia’s Connect Asia after his meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

He said: “I think we came away with a good measure of confidence, that’s in the medium term, which I’d say, is five or six years.

“Vietnam’s economy will recover and continue to grow and it provides very good opportunities for Australian investors.

“Vietnam has now become a member of the World Trade Organisation and I think Vietnam does have very good prospects.”
