Broome anger over dolphin cull leads to attacks

Anger at Taiji's annual dolphin slaughter has led to an attack on the Japanese cemetery in the West Australian tourist town of Broome.
It comes after the Broome Shire last week suspended its sister-city relationship with Taiji due to widespread criticism of the Japanese city's annual dolphin cull.
The move has failed to quell anger the of some local opponents of the cull.
Shire President Graeme Campbell says the debate has deteriorated into racism.
He says hate mail has been sent to councillors of Japanese descent and last night pictures of dolphins were draped over graves in the local Japanese cemetery.
"The people who are doing this are absolutely morons. What more do they want?," he said.
Japanese community leaders in Broome have, in turn, decided to boycott next week's annual Shin Ju festival which celebrates the town's multi-cultural history.
