The European Union is urging Sri Lanka to end impunity over human rights violations and to do more to help people who were displaced by the 25-year war with the Tamil Tiger separatists.

But the 27-country bloc says it also wants to work with Sri Lanka to improve the situation.

EU foreign ministers have said they are particularly worried about the plight of displaced people, who are still detained in closed camps, despite the end of the civil war.

They are calling for displaced people to be granted freedom of movement and full access to humanitarian relief.

They are also calling for the camps to be transferred to civilian authority.
