Obama appeals for Aung San Suu Kyi's freedom

The US President, Barack Obama, has made a direct appeal to the Burmese prime minister, Thein Sein, for the release of all political prisoners, including opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi.
He delivered the message at a landmark meeting with the 10-member Association of South East Asian Nations, on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific summit in Singapore.
Officials at the meeting say the Burmese prime minister did not react to the demand, but thanked Washington for its new policy of engagement.
Speaking after the meeting, Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak expressed disappointment at the response, saying "we expected a bit more but it was not forthcoming."
