Vietnam says it is monitoring China's dispute at the World Trade Organisation against European Union duties on shoes.

The EU's anti-dumping duties also apply to certain types of footwear made in Vietnam.

A Hanoi foreign ministry spokeswoman says the EU's duties are unfair and don't reflect the realities of the shoewear business in Vietnam.

Vietnam joined the WTO three years ago and launched its first dispute this month with a case against US anti-dumping measures on shrimp exports.

Shoes produced in China and Vietnam are estimated to make up 30 percent of the EU market.
