A Truth and Reconciliation Commission convenes in Solomon Islands on Tuesday.
It's been seven years since foreign troops arrived in the Solomon Islands to quell the violence that killed more than 100 people and displaced 20,000 others.
But locals say the ethnic tension that sparked the bloodshed is still simmering away.
Victims will share their experiences when a Truth and Reconciliation Commission holds its first public hearings.
It's chairman, Father Sam Ata, says it will be painful process.
"Definitely they will open old wounds but it is good to deal with those old wounds and get them healed," he said.
Hearings will be held around the country before the Commission advises the government on how to avoid a repeat of the violence.
Australia goes to the polls on August 21.
