A hand grenade has exploded on a street in Thailand's capital Bangkok, leaving one person seriously injured.

It's the second bombing in a week in the city.

In this case a man apparently picked up a plastic bag when he was collecting scrap from rubbish at about 3am.

A grenade inside that had the pin removed blew up and he's now in a critical condition in hospital.

The bomb squad and police investigators are at the scene which is near a major duty free shopping centre.

On Sunday, another bomb explosion killed one and injured eight at a bus stop near the site of the rally where anti-government protests were set up until they were dispersed in May.

The government has announced that it will lift the state of emergency in six more provinces - but not in Bangkok due to the intermittent violence.
