Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has focused on Liberal held seats and the government's economic record during her second day of campaigning in Western Australia.

It comes as new polling shows the prime minister is losing her her election lead to the conservative opposition.

Today's Neilsen poll shows the Government is four points behind the Opposition after preferences.

The Prime Minister says she always knew that the election would be difficult to win and she's warned people who think Labor will still win against making a protest vote.

Ms Gillard has been keen to emphasise the government's economic record during her second day of campaigning in Western Australia.

She's focused on the marginal Liberal seats of Swan and Stirling, having coffee with a young family, tossing the coin at a junior football match, and meeting apprentices working on mining plant and equipment.
