Rescue crews are still being called to help people stranded by flooding in the Australian state of Victoria.

Emergency workers have rescued about 90 people, including three teenage boys who got into trouble while swimming in a swollen creek at Pakenham in Melbourne's outer south-east.

People are now being urging to leave the town of Koo Wee Rup, due to the threat of flooding.

Authorities fear the rising Bunyip River could burst its banks early tomorrow morning.

State Emergency Service spokesman Andrew Gissing says the flooding is predicted to be worse than in 1971.

He says the townships of Koo Wee Rup, Iona, Cora Lynn and Bayles and surrounds will become flooded with above floor inundation and isolation likely.

Residents and businesses are urged to take immediate action to protect life and property this evening.
