The sweeping pension reforms will be implemented on September 1, preempting existing court action and pleas for a full commission of inquiry into fund mismanagement.
In a new bid to stop the cuts, the pensioners’ legal counsel has sent letters to interim Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama, in his capacity as Finance Minister.
They have also sent letters to FNPF board members, warning them that if they allow the reforms to go ahead they will be sued for their personal assets.
The pensioners argue board member appointments were made outside the law, making the individuals personally responsible for any lost benefits.
